My creative space – Bird prints

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I get excited when I start on the first page of a new sketchbook or journal. Do you feel the same way too?

bird_pattern

Today I am working on some nature patterns…with little birdies in them. I’ll be inking them with colour, and will update with works in progress soon.

I’ve also been listening to these girls from Goodnight Tiger, they’re pretty good.

Little birdy

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I’ve been bitten by the stamp bug lately and have resorted to stamping at anything that I can get my hands on. I think it’s contagious!

birdpaper1

A little birdy told me that this person likes birds. Luckily for me, I found a bird stamp in my drawer.

I’m always grateful when someone visits my shop, so I try to incorporate a lot of hand drawings and handmade touches in their packages. These little things remind me why I love being an artist. I love art + making. And I love you!

My creative space – stick em up!

You’ll probably remember these illustrations from this post. I can’t believe it’s been 3 months!

littlemostickerset3

That also says a lot about my working process. I usually have a lot of finished illustrations on my computer but I hold them off from printing until I am absolutely happy with the final product.

I think I’m very particular with how everything must look and packaging is so important to me. It drives me crazy. If I’m not happy, I won’t print it. If I print it and it doesn’t turn out the way it should look, I get very upset and I’ll put the design on hold until I figure out what to do next. Needless to say…it’s been 3 months.

Well…I’m just so happy to finally be able to show you my latest illustrations! And I’m glad I was nit picking over every detail. Because the end product looks great!! And I’m 100% happy now!

Bear Mo sticker set and Garden Mo sticker set are now available in my shop! Keep a look out for my other two packs!

DIY hand stamped wrapping paper

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I was inspired by Allana’s hand stamped wrapping paper from her blog that I decided to try it out myself.

treeprint

I chose a tree stamp and made little tree prints all over some brown paper. I like that the print has uneven ink marks, it gives that charming appeal.

littlemo_giftcard

Since this was an actual order for a customer, I popped in one of my Little Mo thank you cards. All of my thank you cards are hand drawn on the spot. They are like little pieces of my original art:)

Then I stuck Mr Bunny on the package for some extra love! I hope you enjoy opening your Mo goodies, Karen!

Ahoy! My matey!

Also a little obsessed with all things nautical these days! Yarrr!

When I was little, I liked playing pretend pirate and I especially loved going fishing with my dad. It always felt like I was going on a big adventure with him!

littlemo_beach

I’ve been wanting to illustrate a water theme for sometime, so I thought it’d be fun to dress up Little Mo and turn her kitty friends into pirate cats! I hope they will have many sailing adventures together!

Sailor Mo is now available in my shop and will come packaged and signed by me.

I’ve completed 6 artworks for my Little Mo portrait series. You can see them all here. Which one is your favourite?

Panda-mania

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Just a warning…I’m a bit obsessed with panda bears lately.

I mean, I’ve always loved panda bears but the other day I was watching a panda documentary and the pandas were rolling around eating bamboo. I nearly went berserk. I wanted to attack my television with a bearish hug!

So here is my latest artwork…Panda Mo! It will be available in my shop soon as a 5×5 art print.

Stay tuned for more Mo art!

Sticky business

Today is sticker making day!

littlemo_stickers3

I’ve been making and cutting up Little Mo book stickers for wholesale orders. It was actually quite relaxing! I sat at my desk in the morning, put on some music and started cutting all these stickers out. About a hundred of them.

littlemo_stickers2

Then I put the stickers into their little packets. I also sketched a bit on my sketchbook. There’s a froggie in it, but I’m not sure what to do with him. So I shall ponder more on this!

Oh yeah, I’d recommend Earlimart for ‘drawing and cutting up’ background music! I’ve been playing them all week! What’s currently on your playlist?

children cd illustration part 2

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

This is the second artwork for the song, ‘So Hungry’. The song is about a girl and her hungry pets!

sohungry1

I decided to draw a girl having a tea party and feeding her hungry pets. After lots of detailing and shading, the room finally started to take shape!

sohungry2

While working on this artwork, it reminded me of my own childhood days when I had my own pretend tea parties. We called it ‘masak masak’ (cook cook). When I was little, my parents bought me a huge colourful cutlery set with plastic cups and plates and a teapot. It even had a trolley to serve your dishes on! I had so much fun rolling up cakes made out of Play-Doh.
