Hi Helena,

Only just saw this post. I used to work in a gallery and did a course on this so I can tell you!! The middle of the painting should be at eye level. This averages out at 1.65 m.

If you are hanging two or more works one on top of the other then the centre of the grouping of works including any gaps between them should be at 1.65m. There are formulas to use to take into account the hanging hooks on the back of the work and how far down from the top of the work they are, but as a rule, just try and get the middle of the work at 1.65m.

I hang all the works in our house!! lol.

Maybe you guys just need to buy really massive paintings from now on. Or in twos, or threes. I like art hung in threes. One at Big Mo height, one at Little Mo height and one in between.

thanks girls for the tips xoxo! I may have to replace the painting with a longer portrait painting to compensate for the height...or do some other adjustment! I hope my husband reads this post..I'm sure he'll say it's not him...but that the painting is too small!

Paintings should be hung at eye level. I have strong feelings about this!! I'd like to see the bottom edge of this painting sitting somewhere between the top of that picture with the black frame and the bottom shelf with the blue box on it. At the very least, in line with that shelf.
(These things, and especially laying floor coverings, were sent to cause marital friction.)

Normally I'd say yes, it's a tad high but you have the balance of that tall bookcase. I think it works well. ;D
